ngredients:
For the Meatballs:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

- 1 large egg
- Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Sauce:
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
For the Spaghetti:
- 12 ounces spaghetti
- Salt for pasta water
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions:
Making Meatballs:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, fresh parsley, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper.
- Mix all the ingredients until well combined, but avoid overmixing to keep the meatballs tender.
- Form the mixture into 1 to 1.5-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet or tray. You should get about 20-24 meatballs.
- In a large skillet, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until they are browned on all sides and cooked through, which should take about 10-15 minutes. You may need to do this in batches.
Making Sauce:
- In a large pot or saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic. Sauté for about 3-5 minutes, or until they become translucent.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. If you prefer a slightly sweeter sauce, add a tablespoon of sugar.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
Cooking Spaghetti:
- While the sauce is simmering, cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water. Drain and set aside.
Bringing It All Together:
- Once the sauce is ready, add the cooked meatballs to the sauce and simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve the meatballs and sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese.
